A Note On Dates

There were 2 calendar changes in Gt Britain and its colonies in 1752. The first was to change the start of the year from Lady Day (25 March) to 1 January. The second was to change from the Julian to the Gregorian Calendar.

So many times you will see a year written similar to this: 1657/8. This means the day & month are before 25 March of the year and the first year given is the Julian year which they would have used at the time, the second year given is the Gregorian year which we use now.

Dates given are birth & death dates.
